Bamboo Biodegradeable Toothbrush
Plastic toothbrushes are a huge source of unnecessary plastic waste. Over 1 billion toothbrushes are thrown away every year in the U.S. That’s 50 million pounds of waste added to landfills.
Once in landfill, they will take about 1000 years to degrade.
So why are plastic toothbrushes so bad for the environment? Well for one, they contaminate both the ocean and our food. They’re made from polypropylene plastic and nylon, which come from fossil fuels. Like so much other plastic that’s thrown away, plastic toothbrushes end up getting washed away into the ocean, endangering marine life. This also presents a danger for people who eat seafood because the plastic gets crushed into smaller pieces (microplastics) and consumed by fish as a result.
In order to reduce the amount of waste we produce daily, Bkind offers you a biodegradable toothbrush made of bamboo.
Why bamboo? First of all, bamboo is super sustainable. It's strong, durable and is the fastest growing plant on Earth. It's safe, hygienic and is sucks up a ton of CO2. Unlike plastic toothbrushes, bamboo only takes about six months to go back to the earth. You can even drop it in your compost.
The toothbrush comes in a little Kraft paper envelope which is 100% recyclable as well.
The average person uses 300 toothbrushes in their lifetime. The average toothbrush weighs about 20g. Make this small swap and you can save up to 13 lbs of plastic from the landfill.
