11 Things Every Eco-Conscious Mama Needs In Her Hospital Bag

For many of us, giving birth can be a wholly terrifying, painful, and at the very least uncomfortable (albeit beautiful!) experience.  Whether you're giving birth at home, the hospital or a birthing center, you want to surround yourself with things that bring you comfort, peace, and a sense of mindfulness. Most of all, you want to consider products that are safe for mom, baby and kind to Mother Earth.

As my due date nears, here are some of the things I'll definitely be packing in my hospital "go" bag:

Dr. Bronner's Pure-Castile Liquid Lavender Soap: There are few things in life that are better than this soap. Calming, refreshing, and invigorating - it's exactly the boost you'll need to fuel your body and mind after birth. It's paraben-, soy-, nut-, sulfate-, and triclosan-free, and its also biodegradable, vegan, and Leaping Bunny–certified. It comes in a reusable package that’s easy to refill and is made from 100% post-consumer recycled bottles. This bottle is a bit big to carry in your hospital bag so I recommend putting some in a smaller travel-sized bottle. Click here or the image below to purchase via Grove Collaborative.

Schmidt's Lavender + Sage Deodorant: Most conventional deodorants contain harmful chemicals that can be toxic to you and baby, especially if breastfeeding. Switch to a natural deodorant instead and give yourself peace of mind. This award-winning formula uses the power of nature to neutralize body odor. Plant-based ingredients like coconut oil, shea butter, arrowroot, magnesium, and vitamin E fight odors while nourishing your skin. Earth Mama Organics Belly Butter There are a lot of changes happening to your body during pregnancy, and this belly butter was made to help ease the appearance of stretch marks on your skin. It uses organic oils and herbs to nourish your skin (and not just your belly). It can be used during the full nine months, and it’s also a healthy choice for postpartum recovery, breastfeeding, baby care, and regular personal care use even if you don't have a bun in the oven. Organic Eucalyptus Essential Oil: This pure, certified organic eucalyptus essential oil is perfect for aromatherapy. Stimulating and revitalizing with a fresh and woody aroma, eucalyptus essential oil is known for its respiratory benefits and helps promote deep breathing and relaxation. This stimulating oil can be used in a variety of ways with an Aromatherapy Diffuser, an Essential Oil Burner (check with your hospital first) or put in a spray bottle with distilled water and used as a relaxing room spray. Click here (or the image below) to buy via Grove Collaborative.
